R · SANDERSON to reveal Shadow II collection, the IVth Series of Fusing Art with Fashion. Coinciding with the launch and to celebrate the fresh new identity of Rupert Sanderson GOLD as R · SANDERSON, a complete portfolio of Andy Warhol’s Shadows series, comprising of six original and unique screenprints will be showcased on the second floor of LANDMARK Atrium, Central, Hong Kong from 23rd March to 6th April, 2017. The complete portfolio is number 6 of 10 sets ever produced by the revered artist and it is the first time a complete portfolio of Andy Warhol’s Shadows series is on public display in Hong Kong.
In 1978, the “King of Pop” embarked upon the production of a monumental body of work titled Shadows, considered one of Andy Warhol’s most enigmatic work that offers insight into the lesser known side of the artist. Unlike Warhol’s more familiar images such as the Campbell’s Soup Cans, Shadows are screenprints of photographs of shadows of objects that give no visual reference to the objects that cast the initial shadows. They epitomise the artist’s obsession with abstraction and his eternal search for a purposefully made image of nothing. The importance of the work lies in its surface, in the subtle nuance of colour and diamond dust, the play of light and dark, matte and sparkle, in blown-up and exaggerated scale.
Inspired by and as a tribute to Andy Warhol’s epic Shadows series, the R · SANDERSON Shadow II collection features the brand’s signature ‘pebble’ buckles in gradated varnish with 24k/ 22k/ 18k gold leaf, gold powder and diamond dust, each made entirely by hand and is unique. Together with Shadow I which debuted last March, Shadow II will be available at the R · SANDERSON LANDMARK boutique with two exclusive colours, black mirror and rhodonite mirror, across various heel heights. In addition to black and rhodonite mirror, the Shadow II collection also comprises a plethora of colours and materials.
